Vaccination

Your pets health is dependant on regular inoculation against parasites and disease.

All dogs should be vaccinated against several major diseases including Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Kennel Cough. Vaccination program includes initial vaccination at 6-8 weeks, booster shots at 12-14 weeks and 16-18 weeks, followed by a booster every 12 months to maintain immunity.

Cats need to be vaccinated against several major diseases including Enteritis, Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Leukaemia, Chlamydia and AIDS. Vaccination program includes initial vaccination at 6-8 weeks, booster shots at 12-14 weeks and 16-18 weeks, followed by a booster every 12 months to maintain immunity.

Fairfield Rd Vet Hospital can provide you the appropriate advice about the most suitable protection for your pet.

Fleas, Worms & Ticks

Fleas, worms, mites and flies are an unpleasant part of a pet’s life, but with the right advice and products they won’t be a problem. We stock Advocate, Panoramis, Comfortis, Frontline, Capstar, fly repellents and intestinal wormers. Our staff can help you work out what is the best option for you.

Another parasite that commonly affect dogs and cats in Sydney are the Brown Dog Tick and the deadly Australian Paralysis Tick.

Symptoms vary from patient to patient, but usually present as progressive paralysis. Some animals, especially cats, may become distressed, anxious and confused. Eventually the animal is unable to breathe as the lungs develop congestion and chest muscles become paralysed. Once animals are fully paralysed, the chances of saving them are greatly reduced. The anti-tick serum is very effective if given early in the course of the condition. For the best chance of survival we recommend you seek early veterinary treatment.

Puppy Pre-School

Our Puppy Pre-School helps educate both new owners and their puppies about normal canine behaviour. We allow puppies to socialise in a safe & controlled environment and our dog trainers help solve canine issues such as housetraining, biting, jumping and chewing on furniture.

Fairfield Rd Vet Hospital provide a structured 5 week course that covers all aspects of dog care including:
– Basic skills like adhering to commands such as come, sit, stay, down.
– How to conduct both free and lead walking.
– Dog nutrition, dentistry, grooming, house training and dog parasite control

Please note that all puppies are required to have had their first vaccination before attending. Our Vets can provide these.

We recommend that puppy pre-school is conducted while the puppy is between 4-18 weeks old as this is your dogs critical socialisation period.
Research has shown that puppies which are isolated during their early socialisation period are more likely to become hyperactive, aggressive, antisocial & fearful later in life. Our Puppy Pre-School helps your new best friend to develop into a normal, friendly & confident adult dog.

Pet Microchipping Service

Fairfield Road Vet Hospital is fully qualified to microchip your cat or dog.

The New South Wales companion animals act 1998 requires that all cats and dogs must be micro-chipped by 12 weeks of age. The chip is the size of a grain of rice and it is permanently inserted into the skin between your pet’s shoulder blades. This procedure usually takes a few seconds and does not require an anaesthetic. Micro-chipping is often performed at the same time as the animal is de-sexed.
